Kaiser Workers to Walk to Launch Contract Talks

Thousands of Kaiser Permanente workers will walk during their lunch break today to launch contract bargaining.

Hundreds of Kaiser Permanente workers are planning to spend their lunch breaks outside walking in launch of contract bargaining agreements today, March 1.

Workers are challenging healthcare giant Kaiser Permanente to step up for good healthcare jobs and a healthier California. Kaiser workers, who are members of United Healthcare Workers West, or SEIU-UHW, will participate in the “Step Up.”

employees will join 30 other Kaiser Permanente facilities walking 5 million steps during their lunch hours to kick of contract agreements, according to a press release from Kaiser Permanente.

“We are the frontline workers who make Kaiser’s ‘Thrive’ mission a success,” said Angela Young, Unit Assistant at the company’s Roseville Medical Center. “We are challenging them to walk their talk and support good healthcare jobs.”

You'll see people dressed in purple shirts and wearing purple pedometers walking around the Kaiser Roseville Medical Center on Eureka Road — this time not , but to walk five million steps together.
