Lights Go Back on at Maidu Park Soccer Fields

Copper thefts left Maidu Park soccer fields dark for the last two weeks and cost about $24,500 in repairs.

The lights at Maidu Regional Park in Roseville will go back on starting tomorrow, following that left the soccer fields at the park dark.

Sometime between the night of Sept. 22 and early morning of Sept. 23, a thief removed the ground-level cement covers from the light poles and stripped the copper wire out of them. This left the lights inoperable and the soccer fields dark for the last two weeks. Teams’ soccer practices were moved to different fields or the outfield of softball parks, Pamela Allen with the city’s parks, recreation and libraries said.

The lights go back on tomorrow, Oct. 7, and will stay on continuously for about a week as workers finish repairs.

The bright lights will also act as a “deterrent to any potential thieves,” Allen said.

Following a week of continuous light at the soccer fields, the lights will be turned on based on field use, Allen said.
