Meetings Set to Discuss Possible Electric Rate Increases

Electric rates in Roseville may increase by 2 percent this year and 2 percent next year.

Roseville residents will soon have a chance to speak out and ask questions about a proposal to raise electric rates in the city.

Roseville Electric is proposing a 2 percent rate increase in July of this year and another 2 percent increase in July of next year. The base service charge could also increase from $10 to $14 in July and to $18 next year.

It will hold public workshops on the topic starting Tuesday, and spokeswoman Vonette McCauley said the organization is focused mostly on presenting information at meetings already being held by other groups.

The utility says the increases are needed because of new state requirements.

"Roseville Electric is recommending the rate adjustment to mitigate the financial impact to the utility due to increasing state mandated renewable and greenhouse gas emission requirements and comply with our Rate Stabilization Fund policy," the utility's website states.
