Roseville Kids Get Up-Close Look at Big City Trucks (PHOTOS)

Roseville tykes got to play in big trucks this week.

Dozens of lucky area junior truck drivers got a chance to wear hard hats and "drive" garbage and construction trucks at Roseville's Mahany Park Tuesday morning.

Workers from Roseville's electric and environmental utilities departments were out in full force to greet residents with trucks and other equipment in the Riley Library parking lot.

"This event is part of a four event outreach series aimed at meeting our customers at places where they gather," said Vonette McCauley, Roseville Electric's spokesperson.

Many checking out the equipment at Mahany were kids and their parents attending the library's regular Mother Goose on the Loose storytime. The popular free Roseville library program for toddlers incorporates stories with toys and singing.

Many onlooking toddlers, some hesitant at first, climbed up into tall garbage and utility trucks. Others were content on the ground watching a maintenance worker rise into the sky by way of a Roseville Electric bucket truck.

All total, two Roseville Electric trucks and three utility trucks were on display.

Roseville resident Susan Chaney had to take her 21-month-old son Andrew, who is obsessed with trucks, to look at the parked exhibit more than once.

"It's nice having that type of thing in your community," said Chaney. "That they would actually come out and do something for the kids —  that just makes it more special."

Utility workers will be out again visiting with shoppers Saturday, March 16 in the Galleria mall from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. near JC Penney on the first floor. Unfortunately, no trucks will be on hand at the mall event. "Because we are indoors, our activities are limited," said McCauley.

But, the trucks and utility bucket are expected to make an appearance during the Utility Exploration Center's Earth Day celebration scheduled for Saturday, April 20.

Representatives from Roseville Electric are also expected be on hand to meet with residents and business owners at the Roseville Chamber of Commerce's monthly "Happy Hour" event on the third Monday in June.
