Want to Help Name Roseville's Next Fire Station?

The Roseville Fire Department is seeking public input in the naming of its newest fire station.

When Roseville Fire Department officials begin operation of its newest fire station it's likely the name will come from someone around town. That's because the Roseville Fire Department is encouraging locals to suggest names of distinguished Roseville individuals to donate their name to the new station.

The catch, according to department officials, is that the person:

  1. Must be deceased.
  2. Must have made a significant contribution to the Roseville Fire Department and the City of Roseville.

"Fire Station 3 is dedicated to Joe Gabrielli, whom donated the land to the City of Roseville," said department spokesman Rob Baquera.

Gabrielli developed much of the area within the response district covered by Fire Station 3 and was an active member of the Lyons Club. He passed away in 1960 after a long battle with cancer.

"The 10,000 square foot fire station will house three rotating crews that work 24 hours a day 365 days a year and will include a state of the art station alerting system, energy efficient lighting, and is equipped to operate as a city rehabilitation site in the event of an emergency," according to department officials.

"In the case of a city emergency, the station has a larger kitchen and gas tank, and acts as triage center for residents," Baquera.

Fire station #9 (as it will also be known as) is located in the center of the West Park Fiddyment Farms neighborhood off of Hayden Parkway.

“This neighborhood fire station will serve the community which is why we want the public’s help to determine the name,” said Fire Chief Marcus Reed in an official statement.

Baquera noted department officials are hopeful the station will be fully operational by May 1.

Residents are encouraged to submit their suggestions by April 1 to the City Clerk’s Office in person or by mail at 311 Vernon Street, Roseville 95678.

Nomination forms can be found by clicking here. All nominations received that meet the above criteria will be given to the naming committee consisting of two city council members and members of the Fire Department for final selection. Once a name has been selected it will be submitted to City Council for final approval. The nomination PDF form can also be downloaded in this story's photo gallery.

A dedication ceremony will be held after Council gives the official approval.
