Lake Natoma Drowning Victim Was Roseville Teen

Guillermo Contreras, 19, drowned on June 28 at Lake Natoma.

The man who drowned in Lake Natoma last week has been identified as a 19-year-old from Roseville.

Guillermo Contreras drowned Friday evening after attempting to swim across a channel at Lake Natoma, according to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District.

Guillermo Contreras was swimming with a friend near the Aquatics Center at Lake Natoma when he went missing around 8 p.m. Crews arrived to find another man who was frantic, tired and exhausted, and said that the two were crossing the channel when he lost sight of Contreras.

Divers from the Drowning Accident Rescue Team were called out and began a subsurface search of the area with a side-scanning sonar.

The search continued until approximately 1 a.m., when rescuers found Contreras. An investigation into what may have caused his drowning is ongoing.
