Buljan Middle and Vencil Brown Elementary Schools Put on Morning Lockdown

Schools reopened after two suspected armed home burglars arrested.

Buljan Middle School and Vencil Brown Elementary School were put on lockdown soon after 10 a.m. this morning while police searched for a fleeing burglar, suspected to be armed, in the nearby neighborhood.

The Roseville schools have since reopened. Police have detained two suspects who were carrying guns when they burglarized at least one Roseville home, according to Dee Dee Gunther, Roseville Police Department spokesperson.

After, receiving calls of two suspected burglars canvasing an area near Roseville Parkway and Pleasant Grove Boulevard, police stopped a car detaining one suspect. The other suspect fled. Police then notified school officials to lock down the schools, said Gunther.

"Officers received information that the male who fled might be armed," said Gunther. "So as a precaution we contacted the two adjacent schools in the immediate area, Buljan Intermediate and Vencil Brown Elementary, and asked them to lock down."

The second suspect was found and detained about an hour after the schools were locked down.

Police suspect the burglars stole from at least one house where they recovered two guns, Gunther said.
