Chamber Cancels Parade, City's Tree Lighting Event Still Expected

Potential afternoon-evening storm causes Roseville Chamber of Commerce to call off parade.

The Roseville Chamber of Commerce canceled the 51st Annual Sylvia Besana Parade scheduled in downtown Roseville at 3 p.m. today.

"It's canceled due to rain," said Katie Delyon, events coordinator for the chamber. Delyon said there are no plans to reschedule this year's parade.

Word came to the chamber that a potentially bigger storm will hit the area during the scheduled parade time, Delyon confirmed.

Parade organizers were told around noon today that the parade was being canceled.

However, the city's Tree Lighting ceremony is still expected at 6 p.m., according to Pam Allen, community analyst for the city's parks and recreation department.

Also, Santa Claus is still expected to visit with families in the city's Civic Center rotunda during the tree lighting event. A "Letter to Santa" station is expected to be on hand as well.

Other parade events including bounce houses for kids have been canceled. The meet and greet with Disney characters at the Tower Theater has also been canceled, according to Jennifer Bortz, the theater's chief operating offier and director.

As for the Blue Line Gallery, they are expected to still have cookies available for kids to decorate. They will continue the cookie decorating projects for kids through the holiday season on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

A coinciding Blue Martini holiday reception for the Crocker Kingsley Art Competition is still scheduled for 6 to  9 p.m. tonight, said Kathleen Mazzei, the gallery's manager of operations.
