Loomis Basin Equine Medical Center Opens New Facility to Better Serve Community

The premier equine  medical center in Placer County and surrounding communities is set to open its brand new facility that will double its capacity. The Loomis Basin Equine Medical Center will host its grand opening celebration and hold a horse health fair at its new location, 2973 Penryn Road, Penryn, CA 95663, on Sunday, June 30, 2013 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will showcase its full range of services and have groups present to share information about equine rescue, training, tack and equipment, and much more. Staff doctors will speak on topics that every horse owner should be educated about including podiatry/lameness, emergency care, breeding basics, the equine eye, acupuncture and much more! There will also be food and entertainment for the entire family.

The move from its current facility in Loomis to its new, state-of-the-art facility in Penryn, will double its capacity for hospitalizing large animals, including horses, llamas, alpacas and goats, from 20 to 40 animals when all phases are completed, plus gives it more space for routine office visits and the ability to better accommodate both animal and owner. The new facility will increase interior square footage by 25 percent, while adding more acreage and a second barn will give the facility the ability to board more horses and offer more rehabilitation services along with pasture areas for horses to move about and graze freely. For owners, the facility will have additional parking for large vehicles and trailers, and easy access of I-80.

The Loomis Basin Equine Medical Center will continue to offer the high quality care and services that its patients and their animals have grown accustomed to since it began serving the region in 1975. These services include a full service hospital facility for the comprehensive care of horses and other large animals, including stalls large enough for both mare and foal. Its emergency and critical care team is on-call and available 24/7 with in-house laboratory services, oxygen therapy, blood and plasma transfusions, and an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for horses in need of life-saving care. A surgery suite includes a hydraulic assisted table with heated waterbed and overhead hoist system to transport anesthetized patients and keep them comfortable during and after surgery. Like hospitals for humans, Loomis Basin includes radiology, ultrasonography, endoscopy and one of the few equine MRIs in the state of California to diagnose patients quickly and help determine the best course of action for the patient. The facility also offers reproduction services, dentistry, and routine and corrective shoeing. In addition to the services provided at the Penryn location, the medical team operates a fleet of six fully-equipped field service ambulatory units that are available for ranch calls to all of Placer, and parts of Nevada, Sacramento, Yolo and Yuba counties, providing emergency, dental, reproductive and preventative health care services.

In addition to its life saving medical care, Loomis Basin Equine Medical Center provides educational classes to youth interested in veterinary medicine or learning more about their own horses. For adults the staff offers classes for people considering horse ownership, how to spot lameness and how to handle emergencies. With the new facility they will be able to offer these classes to more community members.
