Roseville Man Loses 9-Year Battle Against Cancer

Youth sports coach Tom Wieser underwent aggressive and experimental therapy to fight his cancer, but died earlier this week.

After fighting an expensive and exhausting battle against terminal cancer for nine years, Roseville resident Tom Wieser has died.

The former youth sports coach and co-founder of the Me-One Foundation succumbed to his illness Monday at home, surrounded by family.

"Tom was not in pain," a Facebook page dedicated to Wieser said. "He was talking and smiling up until a few minutes before he went home to Jesus."

Wieser, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2004, underwent aggressive and experimental therapy to fight the colorectal cancer that had spread to his lungs. Community members had donated about $50,000 toward a $200,000 experimental treatment not covered by insurance at the time of Wieser's death. Contributions continue to pour in.

Wieser, along with his wife Heidi, their children and friends, founded the Me-One Foundation, which hosts a free weekend summer camp for adults battling cancer.

"We offer a weekend of fun, respite, and pampering for adults with cancer and their families," the group says on its website. "At Camp Challenge, we focus on bringing joy and laughter back to the forefront of our campers' lives. Cancer may be diagnosed in one person, but it radiates to the whole family."

The nonprofit is named after a scorecard: Me: 1, Cancer: 0.
