Poll: Should Undocumented, Tamale-Selling Mom Be Deported?

Juana Reyes faces deportation after being arrested in Sacramento.

A mother selling tamales outside a south Sacramento Walmart went from being asked to leave the parking lot to facing deportation.

The Sacramento Bee reports that Juana Reyes, who is an undocumented immigrant, faces a deportation hearing next year. She was repeatedly asked to leave a Florin Road Walmart parking lot where she was selling tamales last month, according to the Bee. When she didn't budge, she was arrested.

Reyes has no criminal history, which under a proposed bill by a San Francisco lawmaker would prevent her from being reported to immigration officials. But should criminal past matter once a person is in the country without documentation?

Selling home-cooked tamales from a car is illegal under Sacramento County health code, Patch previously reported.

Roseville, what do you think of this case? Should undocumented immigrants be looked at on a case-by-case basis, or should anyone without legal status in the United States be prepared to face deportation? Take our poll below and leave a comment with your thoughts.

Mrs. Reyes should be allowed to stay here at least long enough to appear on a new TV show, "Tamale Wars."

Seriously, though, I think we need to concentrate on others. It's unfortunate this woman didn't understand what the consequences were of being obstinate. But I don't think she's the problem. There are bigger fish to fry.

This is a perfect example of dishonest, agenda-driven "reporting." The author uses the phrase "...who is an undocumented immigrant" when the true statement would read "...who is an illegal alien." Another example, "Reyes has no criminal history" -- you mean except for violating federal law and entering the country illegally? Even if you are totally sympathetic to this woman, and/or to illegal aliens and their various "plights," at least be honest. As an author of news, your opinion should not be relevant at all. Just report the facts.
