6 Businesses Burglarized, Vandalized within 4 Days

Between Aug. 16 and Aug. 19, half a dozen Roseville businesses were burglarized or vandalized.

Within a span of four days, Roseville Police received half a dozen reports of burglaries, vandalism or suspicious activity at local businesses across the city.

Dee Dee Gunther with the Roseville Police Department said there is a good possibility that a few of the break-ins are connected, such as the recent break-ins along Fairway Drive.

In four of the reports, nothing was taken, but the businesses were left with broken windows or evidence that someone had rummaged through the building.

According to Gunther, there are a few things businesses can do to lessen losses in the event of a burglary. Gunther suggests businesses empty their cash register at the end of the day and either deposit the money in the bank or place it in a safe. Another option is to leave a minimal amount in the register.

Businesses should also make sure their alarm system and/or video surveillance is maintained and working.

Here’s a look at the recent burglaries and vandalism in Roseville:

The first report was around 10:15 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 16 La Bou, in the 1700 block of Santa Clara Drive. Roseville Police officers responded to an alarm at the restaurant and when they arrived, found a smashed window. The cash register door had also been pried open, but staff had removed all of the cash at closing time, so the burglar fled without taking anything.

A citizen in the area reported seeing a white male adult, 5 feet 10 inches tall, wearing a baseball cap and with a bandana covering the lower part of his face, running on Santa Clara Drive toward the dog park.

Also, on Aug. 16, just before 11 p.m., the windows of two restaurants, L&L Hawaiian BBQ and Jalisco Grill, located in the 9000 block of Fairway Drive, were smashed. At one of the businesses, the burglar pried open the cash register and took cash. In the other business, nothing was taken because staff had emptied the cash register at closing time, police report.

Roseville Police officers are reviewing video surveillance and investigating the two break-ins.

At 1:03 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18, officers responded to a burglary alarm at Dollar Tree in the 100 block of Harding Boulevard. When they arrived, they contacted two people parking in a car behind the business; the two adult males were arrested on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine for sale. Police found the business to be secure.

On Sunday, Aug. 19, police responded to two other businesses where windows were smashed.

At 8:18 p.m. on Aug. 19, officers responded to a burglary alarm at Hertz Equipment Rental, located in the 10000 block of Industrial Avenue. When they arrived, they found a window had been smashed; someone had entered the business and rummaged through the office and cash register drawers, but nothing was taken. Officers checked the area, but were unable to locate a suspect.

Less than an hour later, around 9 p.m. Aug. 19, someone called Roseville Police to report something suspicious at Express Lube in the 9000 block of Fairway Drive. When police arrived, they found a window had been smashed and a small amount of cash from the register was taken.

The passerby reported that a white male in his 20s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, was seen taking off his dark-colored shirt and tying it around his face, putting gloves on and approaching the business. Officers were not able to locate the suspect.
