Crime Watch: Mailbox Vandalism, Catalytic Converter Thefts, More

Suspicious Person Reported Tampering with Business Surveillance Camera

At about 4:30 a.m. on June 7, officers responded to a citizen's report of a suspicious person loitering around a restaurant in the 3900 block of Foothills Blvd.  The person was seen tampering with a surveillance camera and trying doors. Fortunately he didn't get in and nothing was taken. 

The suspicious person was a dark-complexioned male in his 20s, 5'8" tall and 180 pounds, wearing black clothing and carrying a black backpack.  Officers checked the area, but were unable to locate him.

Sun City Mailboxes Vandalized

Overnight on June 9/10, someone broke open the doors of several community mailboxes in Sun City.  It's unknown at this time what, if anything, was taken.

Commercial Vandalism, Burglaries: 

Overnight May 30/31, someone scratched a name in a business's window in the 1000 block of Folsom Blvd.

Between 9 p.m. June 9 and 7 a.m. June 10, someone went into a restaurant in the 2000 block of Douglas Blvd. through a possibly unsecured exterior door, kicked in an interior office door and rummaged through the office.  Nothing was reported missing.

At about 1:15 a.m. June 10, someone pried the back door of a smoke shop in the 1800 block of Douglas Boulevard, and took cash from the cash registers and merchandise from the shelves.

Between 2 p.m. June 9 and 9 a.m. June 11, someone cut telephone & alarm wires to the back of a business in the 100 block of South Harding Blvd., and tried to pry the business's back door.  They didn't get in and nothing was taken.

Catalytic Converter Thefts:

Sometime between June 2 and 4, someone jumped the fence into a private parking lot in the 600 block of Commerce Drive, stole catalytic converters from two vehicles and stole the rear license plate from another.

Overnight June 10/11, someone stole a catalytic converter from a 2004 Toyota Tundra pickup parked on Meridian Court.

Neighbor Scares Burglars Away, Police Search for Suspects

At 12:53 a.m. June 10, officers responded to a neighbor's call of a burglary in progress in the 1700 block of Magenta Drive.  Neighbors had heard a crash and when they went out front to check, they saw a pickup they didn't recognize backed up in their neighbor's driveway, and two males trying to load a safe on a dolly into the truck.  The males saw the neighbors coming out, got back in their truck and drove away, leaving the victim's safe and dolly behind. 

The victim, who was away when the burglary occurred, later checked the house and said that a laptop computer and TV were missing, and possibly other yet-unidentified items.

The burglars' vehicle was described as a large older white Dodge Ram or Chevy pickup with an extended cab and an aftermarket-style ramp bumper.   The suspects were two average-sized males, one wearing a white-hooded sweatshirt with the hood up and black pants.

Friday, May 25

Between May 25 and May 28, a home in the 1000 block of Kensington Drive was burglarized while the homeowners were on vacation.  The unknown suspect forced the front door and stole computer equipment and jewelry.

Tuesday, June 5

Apartment garage burglary:  Overnight on June 5/6, someone went into a shared apartment complex garage at 1451 Rocky Ridge Drive and stole a brown specialized men's pedal shifter bike with disk brakes. Entry was likely made through an unlocked door.  A neighbor recalled that at about 2 a.m. June 6, she heard noises and saw a black vehicle backed into the driveway of the building. The vehicle was driven away a short time later.

Wednesday, June 6

Attempted apartment burglary: At 1:34 p.m. June 6, a witness called police to report a man in an upstairs apartment balcony at 1100 Roseville Parkway, trying to pry a window screen.  Residents and maintenance staff approached him, and he fled and drove away in a white mini-van.  He was described as a well-dressed thin white male in his 20s, 5'9" tall, with short black spiky hair. He was wearing an "electric blue" shirt and black jeans or slacks.   Officers are continuing to investigate to identify the suspect.

Friday, June 8

Apartment burglarized:  Between June 8 and 10, someone pried the back door of an apartment at 1451 Rocky Ridge Drive and took firearms and fishing equipment.

Apartment garages burglarized:  Sometime before 11:50 p.m. June 8, someone broke into 12 detached garage units at an apartment complex in the 7900 block of Foothills Blvd.  It's unknown at this time what was taken.

Sunday, April 15

Between April 15 and May 15, a portable navigation unit was taken from a car in the 7200 block of Roycroft Drive.

Saturday, May 26

Between 7:45 and 7:57 a.m. May 26, someone broke the window of a car parked at a recreation facility in the 10000 block of Fairway Drive, and took a purse that had been left on a back seat.  Within 10 minutes, the victim's credit card was used at nearby businesses.  Officers are investigating to try to identify the suspects.

Thursday, May 31

Sometime overnight on May 31/June 1, someone egged and scratched a vehicle in the 1400 block of Quail Circle. The victim said this was the second egging in two weeks.

Monday, June 4

Overnight on June 4/5, a thief went into a possibly unlocked car parked in a driveway in the 8100 block of Bauser Avenue, and stole a wallet containing the victim's ID and debit card.  The victim's debit card was soon used at a gas station in Antelope.

Wednesday, June 6

Overnight June 6/7, someone broke the window of a pickup in the 200 block of Ardmore Avenue and took tote bags and a canvas briefcase containing a laptop computer.  A neighbor found the tote bags discarded in the intersection of Ardmore Avenue and Fairfield Avenue.  They were recovered and returned to the victim.  The laptop bag and laptop are still missing.

Overnight on June 6/7, thieves went into unlocked vehicles in the 1100 block of Kris Way and the 900 block of Keith Drive, and stole music CDs, registration documents and a garage door opener.

Overnight June 6/7, someone broke the window of an SUV parked in the 1200 block of Glenbrook Avenue.  A duffle bag was taken and found discarded on a neighbor's lawn.  It's unknown at this time what else was taken.

Overnight June 6/7, someone broke the window of a vehicle parked in a driveway in the 500 block of Oakborough Ave., and took cash from a wallet that had been left on the seat. The burglar also rummaged through a second unlocked vehicle in the same driveway, but didn't find anything of value to take.

Thursday, June 7

At about 2 a.m. June 7, someone smashed the window of a car parked in a driveway in the 1000 block of Kensington Drive, and took a purse and a wallet containing cash and the victim's ID, debit and credit cards. Within a few hours the victim's cards were used to make unauthorized purchases at stores in the Antelope area.  Two suspicious males were seen in the area, using a flashlight to peer into car windows.

Between 9:14 and 10:14 p.m. June 7, someone broke into two vehicles parked in a restaurant parking lot in the 1900 block of Taylor Road.  The unknown suspect broke the windows of both vehicles and took a laptop computer and shopping bags containing new clothing.

Between 9:30 p.m. June 7 and 2:20 a.m. June 8, someone broke the windows of a vehicle in a retail parking lot in the 9200 block of Sierra College Blvd., and took a cell phone.  The unknown suspect also went into another unlocked vehicle and took house keys and other small items.

Saturday, June 9

Between 9:45 and 10:45 p.m. June 9, someone stole a possibly unlocked red 1990 Toyota pickup from a parking lot in the 1100 block of Roseville Parkway.

Overnight on June 9/10, a thief found four unlocked vehicles on San Esteban Circle. Items taken included stereo speakers, a portable GPS navigator, jumper cables, a cell phone charger, and a garage remote.

Monday, June 11

Between 5:45 and 7 p.m. June 11, someone smashed the window of a car parked at a restaurant in the 2000 block of Taylor Road, and took a laptop computer.

At about 7:15 p.m. June 11, someone smashed the windows of two vehicles parked at a restaurant in the 1500 block of Eureka Road.  The thief took laptop computers, a wallet containing ID and credit cards, and other items.  In each burglary, laptop computer bags had been left on the back seat of the cars.  A witness saw a heavyset Asian male with shaved black hair break the rear window of one of the cars, reach in and take a laptop bag.  The suspect drove away in white 1990s-model four-door sedan.
