Authorities have arrested a 31-year-old Antelope man on suspicion of robbing two banks in Roseville and stealing two cars.
Randy Wesley Penny was arrested early Tuesday morning by Rocklin and Roseville Police, according to a press release. He's charged with robbing two bank branches inside Roseville Safeway stores: on Jan. 22 and on Friday.
Police say after releasing a surveillance photo of the suspect in one of the robberies, a citizen came forward to identify Penny.
"With that information, detectives identified a suspect and also connected him to two car thefts, one in the Sierra Gardens neighborhood near the first bank robbery, and the other in Antelope," the press release states.
Rocklin Police found Penny while on patrol around 1:30 a.m. near Sierra College Boulevard and Taylor Road, according to the press release. The officer ran the plate of the car Penny was driving, and found it to be reported stolen and "connected to the bank robbery suspect."
Penny was arrested without incident, and is being held on $155,000 bail.
"Detectives will recommend that Roseville Crime Stoppers give the anonymous tipster a cash reward," the press release states. "This case is another example of our neighboring law enforcement agencies and the community sharing information and working together to stop crime."

Suspect arrested in connection with local bank robberies
This morning Rocklin P.D. and Roseville P.D. officers arrested Randy Wesley Penny, 31, of Antelope, on suspicion of robbing two U.S. Bank branches inside Safeway stores in Roseville, and stealing two vehicles in the local area.
At 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, January 22, a man went into Safeway, 989 Sunrise Avenue, where there is a service branch of U.S. Bank. He presented a note to a bank employee demanding money, and received an undisclosed amount of cash.
At 5:25 p.m. January 25, a man with a similar description went into Safeway, 9045 Woodcreek Oaks Blvd., and robbed the U.S. Bank branch inside the store in the same manner, presenting a note and leaving with cash.
After the first bank robbery, Roseville Police released surveillance photos of the robber to the media. Detectives then received a tip from someone who had seen the surveillance photos and recognized the robber. With that information, detectives identified a suspect and also connected him to two car thefts, one in the Sierra Gardens neighborhood near the first bank robbery, and the other in Antelope.
At 1:42 a.m. this morning (Tuesday, January 29), a Rocklin Police officer on routine patrol noticed a car being driven in the area of Sierra College Boulevard and Taylor Road. The officer ran the plate, and found it listed as stolen and connected to the bank robbery suspect. The Rocklin officer stopped the car and arrested the driver, Randy Penny, without incident. Roseville detectives were notified and responded to book Penny into the Placer County Jail on suspicion of robbery and vehicle theft. He's being held on $155,000 bail. His booking photo will not be released at this time because of ongoing investigations by other local law enforcement agencies.
Detectives will recommend that Roseville Crime Stoppers give the anonymous tipster a cash reward. This case is another example of our neighboring law enforcement agencies and the community sharing information and working together to stop crime.
