Third Garage Fire Breaks Out in Orangevale in Less Than Two Weeks

The following is a press release from the Sacramento Metro Fire District:

Roughly 5:30 [Monday] morning, Metro Fire crews responded to a house on Blythe Avenue in Orangevale and found a well-involved garage fire that quickly spread to the attic.  Fire crews initiated an aggressive fire attack in an effort to keep the fire from spreading to the living area.

Twenty-two firefighters engaged in firefighting, searching, ventilating, salvage and overhaul. The presence of two roofs on this house, a metal roof on top of a wood shake roof, made fighting the attic fire unusually challenging. Crews worked hard to contain the fire to the garage and attic space, with only water and smoke damage in the living area.

Firefighting efforts saved roughly $150,000 in personal property. One resident stated he woke up, “heard a pop,” looked out the window, and saw the flames. He woke up the other two occupants and they all ran out of the house.  No firefighters or civilians were injured in the fire. Arson Investigators are on scene; the cause is still under investigation.
