Electric Rates in Roseville Could Change Next Year

What do you think of your electric costs? Roseville Electric and the city could make changes to electricity costs early next year.

The city of Roseville will soon examine the rates Roseville residents pay for electricity, and will be asking residents for their opinions.

Roseville Electric adjusted rates in 2009, and will soon re-examine prices. The Roseville City Council will hear an overview of the upcoming process, but will not take action, at its meeting Wednesday.

In 2010, a consultant said the utility's rates were proportional and match industry standards, and now another outside consultant is preparing to look at rate structures and Roseville Electric's revenues.

According to a city staff report, the next steps in the process are:

  • Finalize the utility's 2014-16 "financial plan and rate case recommendations. ... At this time, it is expected that rate changes will be recommended based upon the results of the financial plan."
  • Hold public outreach meetings in January and February.
  • Recommend the rate changes to the Public Utilities Commission and City Council in February and March.
  • Any rate changes will take effect July 2013.
