Garcia has served on Roseville City Council since 2007.

One thing you may not know about Roseville City Councilwoman Carol Garcia is that she enjoys baking pies. That is, when she’s not busy campaigning for re-election, sitting on Council and working full time for Community 1st Bank in Roseville.

Garcia is one of seven candidates running for a seat on Roseville City Council during the Nov. 6 election.

She’s no stranger to Roseville or Council — she’s a lifelong Roseville resident and has sat on the Council since 2007, when she was appointed to fill a vacancy mid-term. She then successfully ran for a seat in 2008 and is running again this year.

Her familiarity with council procedures and background are two things she says make her a prime candidate.

“I think that I have a good vision for our future,” Garcia said. “I have a good history of where we’ve been and where we’re going.”

Community safety, fiscal responsibility and economic development are three priorities Garcia has for the City of Roseville, if re-elected, she said.

She plans to ensure that the City spends taxpayers' dollars wisely and continues to have a balanced budget, she said.

As for economic development, Garcia said Council already has a plan in place to attract businesses to city-wide vacancies. Through the Advantage Roseville program, 21 businesses are coming together for a three-year partnership, all committed to marketing Roseville to other businesses in an effort to attract them to move to the City of Roseville. Businesses like Sims Recycling Solutions, SureWest Communications and Williams & Paddon Architects are involved in the program, which is managed by the Roseville Community Development Corporation.

Garcia mentioned one business that recently announced it would re-locate about 1,000 jobs to Roseville: Sutter Health. One reason the medical company decided on Roseville, Garcia said, was because of the City’s low utility rates.

“All of our City’s utilities are really premiere,” she said, calling Roseville Electric a “crown jewel.”

Garcia also thinks attracting a university to Roseville is a “wonderful” idea — an idea that would also generate jobs and keep youth local.

“I like it because we get to have the opportunity to provide a university for our youth,” Garcia said. “They have that opportunity to stay in Roseville … keep our youth here. They are our future.”

Garcia says her financial background comes in handy while sitting on the Council. She has found it helpful when analyzing budget decisions, she said. Garcia is currently the senior vice president of Community 1st Bank, which has locations in Roseville and Auburn.

Before Garcia joined Roseville City Council, she sat on numerous commissions and committees, which she said helped familiarize herself with City procedures. It also gave her “a feel for how our City is run,” she said.

Garcia said she’s running for re-election to continue serving.

“I feel that it’s important that we continue on the same track,” she said. “I still have the energy to serve, I have the time and I’m committed to serving our community.”
