Poll: Which Side Do You Think Should Surrender in the Budget Standoff?

While it looks as if there’s some progress toward at least a temporary solution to the political standoff over the Affordable Care Act, the specter of a recession or worse if Congress fails to raise the debt ceiling has prompted allies of both factions to propose surrender.

Writing in The New Republic Thursday, Michael Kinsley advised Obama to cave: “Just as not caring about the good of the country gives strength to the Republicans, not caring about how he looks would give strength to Obama. You win the game of chicken by refusing to play.”

Meanwhile, some opponents of Obamacare have suggested that the Republicans let the law become policy and collapse on its own. Some Republican critics of the GOP’s current strategy note that holding the budget and the nation’s credit hostage is bringing the party’s popularity to historic lows.
