California State Fair Opens Today at Cal Expo: Will You Attend?

Are you going? Know of any Roseville exhibitors or performers?

Just in time for the dog days of summer, the California State Fair opens today at Cal Expo.

That means its time for deep-fried fair food, carnival rides, livestock and more. Gates open at 11 a.m. today.

Fair times are:

  • Monday - Thursday: 11 a.m. - 10 p.m.
  • Friday - Sunday: 10 a.m. - 10 p.m.

You can do what I do to beat the heat and check out the exhibit halls during the day. My favorite is the counties exhibits and there's a "Toytopia" exhibit with toys that sounds fun.

There are also free concerts. It's not that big of a lineup, I think, compared to previous years that included acts that at least were interesting including M.C. Hammer, Jessica Simpson and Ozomatli. This year's acts include Rick Springfield on July 19, "American Idol" contestant Scotty McCreery on July 21, Hot Chelle Rae on July 24 and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts on July 27.
