Kaiser Donates Thousands to Roseville, Placer County Nonprofits

Kaiser Permanente announced it will donate more than $1 million to local nonprofit organizations.

Several Roseville and Placer County nonprofit organizations will receive thousands of dollars from as that group gives more than $1 million to various organizations and nonprofits.

, a Roseville nonprofit organization that provides food and shelter for homeless people in Placer County, will receive two grants totaling $40,250. The grants will go toward medical services and an interim care program, according to a news release from Kaiser.


“This is a community problem and the community is coming together to solve it,” said Suzi deFosset, executive director of The Gathering Inn, in a news release. “The medical clinic serves 440 people a year who would not have received medical services otherwise. Kaiser Permanente has always stepped up and been part of the program since we began eight years ago. We couldn’t do what we do without this grant program.”

Kaiser is giving out 43 grants in all, according to the press release.

"Kaiser Permanente has three objectives in its grants: the first is to improve access to health care coverage, health services and health education; the second is to support Healthy Eating and Active Living (HEAL) initiatives; the third is to help prevent community and family violence," Kaiser said in a press release.

In Roseville and Placer County, several other organizations will also receive grants from Kaiser, including:

  • A $25,000 grant to Kids First to help prevent child abuse through parenting classes
  • Lighthouse Counseling & Family Resource Center will receive $28,882 to assist with counseling and anger management classes
  • Seniors First will receive a $25,000 grant that "will be used to fund Health Express which provides transportation for Placer County individuals, including seniors, to medically related appointments"
  • A $20,000 grant to , which will go toward a program that assists uninsured or under-insured families with health and social services, especially those patients of teenagers
  • The Placer Food Bank will get $5,000 to create a health education program using locally grown produce; the program will be launched at food distribution sites
  • PEACE for Families will receive a $26,000 grant to support violent intervention programs
  • The Gathering Inn will receive two grants totaling $40,250 that will go toward medical services and an interim care program
