Ya I agree

these rankings are questionable being that is the school scores righteous being that schools inRead More more affluent areas are supplemented by parents adding extra schooling via tutoring whereas schools where its not so affluent and less likely to add additional tutoring.....it skews what the school alone achieved.

People don't read propositions, and vote because of manipulated television ads. This propositionRead More will only work this year to help our students and teachers. Next year they will not see the "windfall" and politicians and unions will once again be shaming the community into voting for more money that will not go to the students and teachers. This proposition will simply help line the pockets of union officials and administrators. Schools will continue to be over crowded. Schools will continue to close. Children will continue to again fall far below the national average.

prop30 will only be to help the unions with more money...today schools get some but its onlyRead More guaranteed for ONE year...after that expect a RAID on general fund away from schools
Reginald Bronner April 19, 2013 at 01:26 am
Let's be thankful that the Governor and the Democrats pushed Proposition 30 through in 2012. If itRead More were up to our local political "worthies" it would have never happened.

We as taxpayers are dumping more and more money into our schools, yet the money isn't going to theRead More classrooms or the teachers. Instead, we have administrators on top of administrators who are making huge salaries for basically overseeing the same jobs. Our schools in California fall well below all national standards, and our kids aren't prepared for adulthood. It is a shame. I will not vote for any new taxes for our schools until I can see the funds helping teachers and students.

Why did they lose their lease? Who owns the property? What are the property owner's plans?Read More "...the landlord's new terms were excessive and greedy...." Says who? Has anyone verified this? Has anyone received the property owner's point of view..not saying you are wrong, I'm just asking the question...

Thank you for the update! I am eagerly awaiting the new Roseville Merryhill. I'm a parent who hadRead More their child in the campus on Baseline that had to close last month. I know that every effort was made on behalf of the Merryhill staff to renew the lease -- the landlord's new terms were excessive and greedy. I don't believe that this school is poorly managed -- just the opposite. It was a painful decision for the staff, and I know that many of the other parents (and children) dearly miss their beloved teachers. I firmly believe that they made the right decision. To say that I'm a very picky mom is quite an understatement. My husband and I thoroughly researched where we wanted to send our child to preschool, and found the best choice to be Merryhill. I hope that the Planning Commission moves forward on the permit. Many families have their children temporarily displaced, and we're looking forward to having our school in back in Roseville.

Much of the charter school problem is that they are often "profit-oriented" and are poorlyRead More managed at that task as well. Has Placer County ascertained that they have put in standardized business management practices, student evaluation, and third-party oversight with penalties for non-compliance? Bet you they haven't.

Oops meant to say it WOULD be on SW before dawn.
Sharon Crowley April 16, 2013 at 01:07 am
It will rise in the northeast but will depend on when you're looking. Before dawn on the 22nd shouldRead More be the best time due to a bright moon and number of expected citings. So it won't probably be in the southwest sky then.

So, what direction should we be looking during these showers?

I do believe others are also interested in what happened to JB Davis. Benicia Patch refuses toRead More respond. So my answer to that is just quit reading and commenting on Benicia Patch. I do not believe in censorship but I do believe in responding to a request. Just what is up Benicia Patch?

Glad to see the STAR test on its way out. Frustrated though, that the new test is not a nationalRead More test. In other states we've lived in, we got to see how our kids were doing compared to the rest of the NATION. Not so here in California. I'm VERY suspicious that the news would be BAD.
ROBERT E. FISHBACK January 9, 2013 at 09:31 pm
TGD Again, Posters should address comments to the person. No one knows who you are sayinging thisRead More to. But, you did hit upon an appropriate topic..sperm distribution. If you are married..to your wife; If not married, to know one. I think a great movie all educators should watch again is "To Sir With Love"
TGD January 9, 2013 at 04:16 pm
"a more interesting topic" I think you may need to find a different forum to discussRead More sperm distribution.

The year and a half before I retired after about 20 years in the profession, I was assinged to aRead More class for students who, for some reason were behind in their academics. Some of them were in and out of juvenile hall, some missed school because they were lazy, some cut as much as they could cause they hated school. As it came time for me to go on my merry way, I told the class of about 15 students what was going on. They were stunned that I would be leaving before the end of the school year. One kid, we called him 'Big John,' called that for the typical reason, addressed me as I left. He said, "Mr. O. thaks for not giving up on me as many teachers have." That made my entire career worthwhile. I left just before the time when teachers were being blamed for everything: Kids can't write, kids can't read, teachers were easy scapegoats. We are through that period now.

Hi Chris. It looks like the blog is back up. Maybe it was some sort of glitch. Anyway, just lettingRead More you know. Take care!
Melanie C. Johnson January 6, 2013 at 04:15 am
That was the most recent blog. I didn't realize it had been taken down. Thanks for sending it.
Melanie C. Johnson January 6, 2013 at 04:00 am
Hi Chris. Which blog was removed?
B.K. Holthaus December 16, 2012 at 03:19 am
Chris, I taught for thirty years. I never met one P.E.teacher who thought P.E. was more importantRead More than academics. It has it's place in a curriculum, but most important? No. I do agree that things like music, art, drama, auto technology and other shop and practical skills classes have their place in schools too. Sadly, they are the first to be cut when budgets shrink.

Here is a fact for you Greg. Jesus Christ was the first well known commie. Why do you think theRead More fokking Jews ratted him out to the Roam soldiers.? The USA Military goes to great lengths.? Did they tell you that in one of the press releases you call news papers.? Did you go yo school.? If so, you need to go back. BTW did you know the word naive is not in the dictionary.? Look it up. I am a proud citizen of the USA. I am sorry to say that its genocidal elite class is still breathing. But the USA had its day in the sun. The new power is already born. Send me an email, I will send you some news sources that are NOT U.S. State Department press releases. It will be GOOD for you to know the truth for the FIRST time in your life. Deir Yasin Gott Mit Uns God Bless ...

Dear Mr. Rand: As typical for Lefties, you can't defend your positions outside your protectedRead More bubble so you quickly resort to name calling. My statistics and data prove my assertions. You cite no contrary info. The US military goes to great lengths to avoid killing innocent civilians when the terrorists hide among civilians. That you cite Karl Marx' book, Das Kapital, shows where you are coming from. At least you are honest about it. Most Lefties are not so honest. Marxism, communism, or whatever ism you want to call it has always lead to tyranny and poverty for most people in the country. They have killed tens of millions of people. The free enterprise system leads to the most prosperity and the most liberty for the most people. The record of history is crystal clear.
