Considering the high number of English language learners in California, the reading score doesn'tRead More surprise me.

This may take the prize for the most frivolous lawsuit filed in recent history. To some people,Read More everything is race based if there are some deep pockets in the background. It is preposterous that any school district would use race as a criterion for closing or opening schools.

these rankings are questionable being that is the school scores righteous being that schools inRead More more affluent areas are supplemented by parents adding extra schooling via tutoring whereas schools where its not so affluent and less likely to add additional tutoring.....it skews what the school alone achieved.

Let's be thankful that the Governor and the Democrats pushed Proposition 30 through in 2012. If itRead More were up to our local political "worthies" it would have never happened.

prop30 will only be to help the unions with more money...today schools get some but its onlyRead More guaranteed for ONE year...after that expect a RAID on general fund away from schools

People don't read propositions, and vote because of manipulated television ads. This propositionRead More will only work this year to help our students and teachers. Next year they will not see the "windfall" and politicians and unions will once again be shaming the community into voting for more money that will not go to the students and teachers. This proposition will simply help line the pockets of union officials and administrators. Schools will continue to be over crowded. Schools will continue to close. Children will continue to again fall far below the national average.

We as taxpayers are dumping more and more money into our schools, yet the money isn't going to theRead More classrooms or the teachers. Instead, we have administrators on top of administrators who are making huge salaries for basically overseeing the same jobs. Our schools in California fall well below all national standards, and our kids aren't prepared for adulthood. It is a shame. I will not vote for any new taxes for our schools until I can see the funds helping teachers and students.

Much of the charter school problem is that they are often "profit-oriented" and are poorlyRead More managed at that task as well. Has Placer County ascertained that they have put in standardized business management practices, student evaluation, and third-party oversight with penalties for non-compliance? Bet you they haven't.

Thank you for the update! I am eagerly awaiting the new Roseville Merryhill. I'm a parent who hadRead More their child in the campus on Baseline that had to close last month. I know that every effort was made on behalf of the Merryhill staff to renew the lease -- the landlord's new terms were excessive and greedy. I don't believe that this school is poorly managed -- just the opposite. It was a painful decision for the staff, and I know that many of the other parents (and children) dearly miss their beloved teachers. I firmly believe that they made the right decision. To say that I'm a very picky mom is quite an understatement. My husband and I thoroughly researched where we wanted to send our child to preschool, and found the best choice to be Merryhill. I hope that the Planning Commission moves forward on the permit. Many families have their children temporarily displaced, and we're looking forward to having our school in back in Roseville.

Why did they lose their lease? Who owns the property? What are the property owner's plans?Read More "...the landlord's new terms were excessive and greedy...." Says who? Has anyone verified this? Has anyone received the property owner's point of view..not saying you are wrong, I'm just asking the question...

So, what direction should we be looking during these showers?
Sharon Crowley April 16, 2013 at 01:07 am
It will rise in the northeast but will depend on when you're looking. Before dawn on the 22nd shouldRead More be the best time due to a bright moon and number of expected citings. So it won't probably be in the southwest sky then.

Oops meant to say it WOULD be on SW before dawn.
