The fire station is expected to open just before Christmas in Roseville's WestPark neighborhood.

It doesn't look like much now, but this time next year, a new Roseville Fire station will fill a vacant spot in west Roseville.

Thursday morning's groundbreaking ceremony marked the start of construction for Station No. 9, located in Roseville's WestPark community.

The station will cost $2.8 million and funding was provided by Roseville's fire facilities fun through permits on new construction, according to the City of Roseville.

Roseville's new Fire Chief Marcus Reed was one of eight city leaders to make the first shovels Thursday — less than two weeks into his new role as fire chief. Reed said the station will initially house one fire engine company and a battalion chief.

Roseville Fire Department spokesman Jeff Carman said the station will have the capacity to also house a ladder truck.
