Human Remains Found Near Roseville Golf Course

The Placer County Sheriff's Department is conducting an investigation to identify the skeletal remains.

Human remains were found near in Roseville Thursday afternoon.

Dena Erwin, spokesperson with the Placer County Sheriff’s Department, said a passerby saw the skeletal remains near a bridge around 5 p.m. Thursday, March 22 and called the department. It was determined that the remains were human, Erwin said.

The remains were removed from the area Thursday evening and taken to the morgue in Auburn.

Friday morning, an autopsy was performed on the remains to determine the cause of death and revealed that there were no obvious signs of foul play. However, due to the body's condition, DNA testing may be necessary to determine the identity.

According to Erwin, the body may be male, but they can not positively confirm the gender yet.

The body appeared to be underwater in a creek for some time, according to a release from the sheriff's department.
