Roseville Businesses to Offer Free Catalytic Converter IDing

The program is designed to discourage thieves.

Three Roseville auto service businesses will soon begin a free service to engrave vehicle license numbers into catalytic converters and coat them in bright paint.

The program, funded by a grant from Roseville’s Citizen’s Benefit Fund, is intended to discourage theft of the parts, which are commonly sold for scrap.

"The goal is to make the converters less attractive to steal, harder to resell to metal recyclers, and easier for law enforcement to find a victim if the parts are recovered," Roseville Police said in a press release.
