Final Phase of Auburn Folsom Road Widening Project to Start

You'll probably notice some construction along Auburn Folsom Road in Granite Bay, as the final phase of a widening project begins this fall. 

The $5.6 million final phase of the project is expected to be complete in 2016, according to Placer County officials. 

This third and final phase will widen Auburn Folsom Road between Bell Drive and Douglas Boulevard in Granite Bay. There will also be water drainage improvements, according to a county press release.

The Placer County Board of Supervisors awarded a $5.6 million construction contract Tuesday for the final phase of the Auburn Folsom Road widening project.

Funding includes countywide traffic impact fees, South Placer Regional Transportation Authority fees and a state grant. 

Tuesday’s board action will allow construction to get under way late this fall on widening Auburn Folsom between Bell Drive and Douglas Boulevard in Granite Bay. Construction work is scheduled to be completed in 2016.

During Tuesday’s meeting, the board voted unanimously to award the contract to Teichert Construction.

“I am delighted to see us moving forward with the third and final phase, because this project is critical for Granite Bay and other communities throughout the area,” said Supervisor Kirk Uhler, Granite Bay’s representative on the Placer County Board of Supervisors. “When the project is complete, motorists will be able to travel along a four-lane thoroughfare all the way from Douglas Boulevard in Granite Bay to Highway 50 in Sacramento County.” 

Auburn Folsom Road serves as a major transportation corridor between South Placer and the Folsom area, attracting approximately 30,000 vehicles on a typical day.   

Placer County’s three-phase project is focused on widening Auburn Folsom Road from Douglas to the Sacramento County line. The south phase from the county line to Woodchase Drive was completed in 2009 and the middle phase from Woodchase to Bell Drive was finished in 2011.  As part of the project, traffic signals were installed at Auburn Folsom and Fuller Drive in 2006. 

In the final phase, drainage improvements will be constructed and a San Juan Water District water line replaced while Auburn Folsom Road is being widened. The district will pay for water-line improvements.
