Weekend Planner: Sept. 11, Circus, Madden Gaming Mecca

Here's a look at what's happening in and around Roseville this weekend.

This weekend marks the 10-year anniversary of something that many of us will never forget: Sept. 11. Here are a few ways you can pay tribute to and remember the lives lost:

Sept. 11 Memorial Services:

St. John’s Episcopal Church – Honor and remember the many who lost their lives 10 years ago in the Sept. 11 tragedy during a service at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Roseville. The service will include prayers, readings and the recitation of the 3,014 people who lost their lives during the 9/11 events. A special flag made by Betty Bourdet will be hung for viewing through Sept. 11. The service is open to the public and starts at noon Sunday, Sept. 11. More information is available here

Adventure Christian – Sept. 11 at Adventure Christian Church in Roseville will be about honoring, remembering and thanking those who lost their lives during the attacks 10 years ago. Services will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10 and at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11. More information is available here.

All American Speedway – On Saturday, Sept. 10, racing fans will honor victims and heroes of the Sept. 11 attacks with a First Responders Night. Firefighters, law enforcement, emergency medical personnel and dispatches will get in free with ID or in uniform. Five first responders, including Roseville Fire Chief Wynn Latta and Police Chief Daniel Hahn, will also get the trill of racing on the track as passengers. A 9/11 monument display will showcase a piece of the trade center during the opening ceremonies. The grandstand opens at 4 p.m. with racing at 6 p.m. More information is available here.

In addition to remembering 9/11, there are a few more options for weekend plans. Take a look at a few here:

Polish Festival – Polish beer, potato pancakes and pastries will be served up at the 22nd annual Polish Festival hosted by the Polish American Club of Greater Sacramento. Starting at noon Saturday, Sept. 10, listen to live polka music by Chet Chwalik and the Dave Chelini Trio, watch or participate in folk dancing, sample authentic Polish food and more. Festivities will be held at 327 Main Street in Roseville from noon to 6 p.m. More information is available here.

Madden Gaming Mecca – Madden 12 will take over Black Top Comedy from 1-4 p.m. Saturday for a Madden Topia Ocolypse. Improvisers will give their commentary during the games as participants compete for prizes. The event is free and game, XBOX 360 and controllers will all be on hand for the tournament. Participation is limited, and registration is available here.

Circus Vargas – The blue and gold tents are set up and ready for Circus Vargas showtime. The first show was held Thursday night, but continues through Monday, Sept. 12. Performances run at 8 p.m. Friday; 2 p.m., 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10; 1 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11 and at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept 12. More information is available here.

Party at Splash - The Roseville Area Chamber of Commerce this weekend. New this year will be a photo booth, karaoke lounge and a game truck. The party begins at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10 at the Roseville Aquatics Complex. Tickets are $60 in advance or $75 at the door.
