How's Your Roseville Business Doing?

A Roseville Chamber business walk takes place Oct. 12. Volunteers will visit local businesses to find out how business is going.

Roseville business owners might get some curious visitors Wednesday asking, “How’s business?”

It’s all part of the Roseville Area Chamber of Commerce’s third annual business walk called “Listening to Business.”

During the two-hour walk around Roseville and Granite Bay, about 80 volunteers will visit about 500 local businesses, according to Cathy Macaulay, public relations director with the Roseville Chamber.

“This year we’re focusing on the smaller retail strip centers,” Macaulay said.

By asking business owners a few key questions, the volunteers hope to find out how the Roseville Chamber, City of Roseville or Placer County can help make business better, Macaulay said.

With business owners’ answers, chamber members compile the data, follow up with the city or county in regards to business questions and make necessary changes.

Macaulay said from the last two business walks, they found that many local business owners struggled with getting the word out to the community that, “We’re here and open for business.” One of the issues was strict city and county sign ordinance regulations. Through feedback from the business walk, local government eased up on business sign ordinances, Macaulay said.

During last week’s Roseville City Council meeting, Roseville Chamber CEO Wendy Gerig gave locals a head’s up about the business walk. The goal is to find out how the business community is doing, she said.

“(We’ll be taking the) pulse on how the business community is doing,” Gerig said.

If you’re a local business owner, be prepared to answer these questions from Roseville Chamber volunteers:

  • How is business?
  • What do you like about doing business in Roseville/Granite Bay?
  • How can we improve business?
  • What local regulations affect your business the most?
  • What state and federal regulations affect your business the most?
  • Any suggestions for the Roseville Chamber?
