Heat Prompts Longer Library Hours, County Cooling Centers

Hours extended to provide cool place for those without air conditioning.

The National Weather Service is advising that a ridge of high pressure will “bring dangerously-high temperatures” to California this week. In response, Sacramento area officials, including those in Roseville and Placer County, are advising residents without air conditioning to visit area cooling centers or locations..

In Roseville, officials have extended library hours for those needing to escape the heat. Placer County officials are opening cooling centers at their libraries as well in Granite Bay, Rocklin, Loomis and Auburn  

Here is a list of the Roseville and Placer County library hours. 

Roseville Library Hours 

• Downtown Library, 225 Taylor Street
Extended hours, Open 10 am - 8 pm through Wednesday July 3rd
Open 12 pm - 8pm July 4th
Open 10 am - 7 pm Friday July 5th

• Maidu Library, 1530 Maidu Drive
Open 10 am - 7 pm on Monday-Wednesday
Closed Thursday July 4th
Open 10am - 5 pm on Friday

• Martha Riley Community Library, 1501 Pleasant Grove Boulevard
Open 10am - 7 pm on Monday-Wednesday
Closed Thursday July 4th
Open 10am - 5pm on Friday

• Granite Bay
Placer County Library, 6475 Douglas Blvd., Community
Opens at 10 a.m.
Normal operating hours Tuesday and Wednesday with hours possibly extending to 8 p.m. 

• Rocklin
Placer County Library, 4890 Granite Dr.
Opens at 10 a.m.

• Loomis
Placer County Library, 6050 Library Dr.
Opens 10 am. Tuesday
Opens 11 a.m. Wednesday

• Auburn

In Placer County, Dial-A-Ride service, offered by Placer County Transit, is available to help residents or groups who need transportation to a county cooling center.  To request assistance, call Placer County Transit at 530-745-7570.

The cooling centers are not set up to handle pets, according to county officials. Residents who intend to stay at a cooling center may call Placer County Animal Services if they are concerned about shelter for pets. 

To seek assistance for pets, call Animal Services dispatch at 530-886-5500 between 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. on Wednesday.
