Longtime Auburn Columnist Joe Carroll Dies

Joe Carroll, a journalist who wrote columns and reported on Placer County issues for more than 30 years, died Friday.

Carroll was 81, Folsom and El Dorado Hills Telegraph Editor Don Chaddock tweeted.

Carroll worked for the Auburn Journal, which is owned by the same company as the Folsom and El Dorado Hills Telegraphs, from 1961 to 1975, that paper said in 2010. After a stint writing speeches and press releases for two state politicians, Carroll took a job with the Placer Sentinel in 1991.

“Joe, you have over the years provided no end of enjoyment for an awful lot of folks,” Placer County Supervisor Kirk Uhler said earlier this year when Carroll was honored by the board. “I will always value the impact you had on my life.”
