Each year California MADD gives awards to individual officers, departments, state park agencies, media and community partners whose actions and policies are aligned with MADD's mission and go above the call of duty. This year, more than 170 officers earned awards.

“The officers recognized at this event are the top officers in the state for DUI Enforcement," said Silas Miers, MADD California Law Enforcement Program Specialist, in a news release. "Some of them have personal stories; perhaps they are even victims themselves. These officers, along with the other award recipients, have seen the tragedies and devastation that drunk driving crashes have caused and they have set out to help protect the community from that devastation."

Funding for this recognition program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
