Crime Watch: Copper Thieves, Multiple Suspicious Persons, More

A roundup of crime from the Roseville Police Department.

Suspected Copper Thieves Arrested

Just before 2 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 7, a Roseville officer was on routine patrol on East Roseville Parkway south of Douglas Boulevard, and noticed a brown Jeep Cherokee pulled over by the side of the road.  The driver appeared to notice the officer, and drove away rather quickly.  The officer followed and stopped the vehicle for a minor equipment violation.  Inside the vehicle, officers found a trashcan filled with electrical wire.  Officers checked the neighborhood and found a string of street lights out, with their wiring removed, on Roseville Parkway between Orvietto Drive and Olympus Drive.  A 50-year-old Sacramento man and a 42-year-old Sacramento woman were arrested on suspicion of grand theft and related charges.

At about 2:30 a.m. on Oct. 6, officers responded to a citizen's report of a suspicious vehicle parked in a model home area.  Officers located the vehicle and contacted the two occupants.  A 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing methamphetamine, and a 30-year-old woman from West Sacramento was arrested for misappropriation of found property (she had a checkbook belonging to a Roseville resident in her purse).

At 1 p.m. on Oct. 8, a parent who was watching a soccer game at Silverado Oaks Park reported a person acting suspiciously.  An older white male, bald, driving a beat-up cream-colored work truck pulled up to the curb near some kids, got out, walked toward the back of his truck, then got back into his truck and drove away with his passenger door still ajar.  He didn't try to make contact with the children.  Officers documented the incident and are following up.

Late afternoon Sunday, Oct. 9, residents of Lenka Court had a male teenager knock on their doors and ask to go into their backyards, purportedly to check on a water leak. One of the residents became suspicious that the teen was casing the area, and followed him to a parking lot on Melody Lane. The youth yelled and brandished a knife at the resident. Roseville officers responded and, with the help of several residents pointing the way, located the teenager an hour and a half later at his home in the Cresthaven neighborhood.  The teenager was arrested on suspicion of brandishing a weapon and delaying officers. He was taken to juvenile hall.
