Door-to-Door Solicitor Arrested on Suspicion of Burglary

A 19-year-old was arrested on suspicion of burglary after Roseville Police discovered a stolen iPhone in her possession taken from an east Roseville home.

On the afternoon of Oct. 20, police received a few calls from east Roseville neighborhoods about two females going door to door, trying to sell magazine subscriptions without the proper permits to conduct door-to-door soliciting. While in the 2200 block of Sebastian Way, one of the solicitors was talking to a resident at the front door, and the other allegedly entered the home through an unlocked side door to the garage, and stole an iPhone.

Officers responded to the area, contacted the women and recovered the resident's stolen phone. The suspect, a 19-year-old female from Alabama, was arrested on suspicion of burglary.

A tip from the Roseville Police Department: In order to solicit door to door in Roseville, solicitors must have a valid Roseville business license, and must register with the police department prior to soliciting. Ask to see solicitors' permits, and call police immediately if they're aggressive, won't take no for an answer, or otherwise appear suspicious to you.

You can also put a "no soliciting" sign up by your door--by law, solicitors are legally required to respect your wishes and not knock on your door. Never let strangers into your home.

Commercial Burglaries:

Between Oct. 12 and 15, someone broke into a temporary construction office on Kinross Way and stole computer equipment.

Around 7:30 a.m. Oct. 15, someone broke into a store in the 9200 block of Sierra College Blvd., and stole merchandise. They made entry by prying the door of a vacant suite next to the store, and then knocking a hole through the wall to get into the store.

Between 5:30 and 6 a.m. Oct. 16, someone broke into two automotive businesses in the 400 block of Riverside Avenue and took office computer equipment. The burglar was apparently scared off by the burglar alarm activation, because some of the stolen goods were found outside the businesses.

Between Oct. 16 and 17, someone went into a fenced yard outside a tire business in the 700 block of Atlantic Street and took several sets of tires.

At about 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 20, someone entered a healthcare office in the 100 block of North Sunrise Avenue and demanded money from an employee in a threatening, aggressive manner. He took cash and fled on foot. The suspect was described as an unshaven white male in his 40s or 50s, 5'10" tall and 180 pounds, with short brown hair in a crew-cut. He wore a long-sleeved button-up shirt, blue jeans and brown work shoes. No weapons or associated vehicles were seen.

Between 4 p.m. Oct. 18 and 4 p.m. Oct. 19, someone stole a catalytic converter from a Toyota Tacoma pickup parked on El Rancho Court.

Saturday, Sept. 29

Just after 10 p.m. Sept. 29, three unknown juveniles were walking in the 700 block of Church Street, and one of them was seen throwing a rock at a parked truck, breaking the windshield.

Wednesday, Oct. 3

Overnight Oct. 3/4, someone rummaged through an unlocked car in the 1500 block of Mill Run Drive and took an iPod cable.

Saturday, Oct. 13

Overnight Oct. 13/14, someone slashed the tires on a vehicle at an apartment complex at 800 Gibson Drive. During the same weekend, another resident reported her vehicle had been deliberately scratched.

Sunday, Oct. 14

Between 12:30 and 6 a.m. Oct. 14, someone smashed the window of a car parked in an apartment complex at 1299 Antelope Creek Drive and took a backpack containing ID and medical equipment.

Tuesday, Oct. 16

During the school day on Oct. 16, someone stole a 1965 red fastback Ford Mustang, with a white stripe on the bottom, from the parking lot of Woodcreek High School. As of this time, the vehicle hasn't been located.

Thursday, Oct. 18

Between 12:30 and 2 p.m. Oct. 18, someone pried the door of a pickup parked in the 900 block of Pleasant Grove Blvd. and took the stereo, golf clubs, sunglasses and other items.

Saturday, Oct. 20

Overnight Oct. 20/21, someone broke the window of a vehicle parked at an apartment complex at 1451 Rocky Ridge Drive and took a woman's purse from the rear cargo area. The purse contained the victim's ID and several bank cards, which were soon used to make unauthorized purchases.

Overnight Oct. 20/21, someone stole a blue Honda Civic from a parking lot in an apartment complex at 1451 Kingswood Drive. The owner found it the next morning parked in a different part of the lot, with the stereo and some loose change taken.

Thefts:

Between 8 and 10 p.m. Oct. 12, someone stole an unsecured silver Trek mountain bike and a red motorized mini-bike from a front porch in the 600 block of Encinal Avenue.

Around 11 p.m. Oct. 13, someone stole an unsecured and unattended blue Mongoose mountain bike from Kaseberg Park.

Overnight Oct. 15/16, someone broke the lock and stole a bike that had been secured to a bike rack at Cooley Middle School. The stolen bike is a black and white 21-speed boy's bike with red shocks.
