Roseville Police provided a few tips for business owners:

  • Ensure the premise is completely locked and secured, including all windows and points of entry, at close of business.
  • Call police immediately if any suspicious behavior is seen in the area--for example, if someone is loitering in the area and seems to be "casing" the business.
  • Make sure any surveillance systems are working properly, and that the owner or other trusted employees know how to quickly download the video for police if needed. Surveillance and alarm systems are good deterrents when used properly.
  • If notified of an alarm activation in the middle of the night, take it seriously and respond immediately.
  • Keep the business well lighted and make sure the interior is visible from the street after hours, so that passers-by and officers on patrol can see inside.
  • Deposit cash, checks and credit card slips in the bank at close of business--don't leave significant amounts of cash in the store overnight. Keep valuables out of sight when the business is closed.
