Vandal Programs Pot Message into Roadside Sign

A Caltrans road work sign was vandalized Wednesday night in Roseville.

OUTSIDE SACRAMENTO, CA -- A roadside sign was given a new message Wednesday night, but not by construction workers or California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) employees.

Commuters traveling I-80 near Douglas Boulevard in Roseville Thursday morning were greeted with a sign that read "Smoke weed everyday," according to a photo posted posted on Twitter by Joe Pittman, a producer for KHTK 1140.

A Caltrans spokesman was unable to view the photo and comment on it specifically, but confirmed one of the agency's signs was vandalized overnight.

"During the night vandals stole the tires and broke into the message board and loaded the inappropriate message for view," Caltrans spokesman Dennis L. Keaton said in an email.

He said work crews removed the sign around 10:40 a.m., once they had been alerted to the prank.
